Final
You will create a playable environment showcase in Unreal Engine that integrates your rigged character, props, and environment. This project connects directly to Year 2, Semester 2 units:
- Unit 4 — Unreal Engine Basics
- Unit 5 — Environment Design in Unreal
- Unit 6 — Blueprint Scripting Basics
The focus is on building a small but polished interactive scene. You are not expected to make a full game — your goal is to demonstrate control over importing assets, designing environments, and scripting simple interactivity.
In Year 3, you will expand these skills to create a team-based vertical slice. This project is your first step toward industry-style production in Unreal.
Steps to Completion
Step 1 — Environment Blockout
Create a simple greybox level in Unreal.
Focus on scale and proportion so your character fits correctly in the world.
Step 2 — Set Dressing & Lighting
Add props, textures, and materials.
Use basic lights (directional, skylight, spot/point) and experiment with atmosphere.
Step 3 — Character Integration
Import your rigged character and confirm materials, scale, and placement.
Pose or idle animation optional for polish.
Step 4 — Blueprint Interactivity
Add at least one trigger or pickup.
Implement basic character movement and a simple win condition (goal reached, item collected, etc.).
Step 5 — Renders & Playthrough
Capture screenshots of the environment with your character.
Record a short (30–60 sec) playthrough video showing interactivity.
Step 6 — Final Showcase Package
Compile your environment, character, and Blueprints into:
- Unreal packaged build + project folder
- Presentation board with renders and notes
- Process PDF with Blueprint screenshots, references, and reflection
Deliverables
- Environment Build — playable scene with props, scale, and lighting
- Character Integration — imported rigged character with materials
- Blueprint Interactivity — movement, one interactive element, and a win condition
- Renders & Playthrough — screenshots + short video
- Presentation Board & Process PDF — workflow documentation and reflection
- Portfolio Upload — final showcase added to your portfolio
Learning Outcomes
By completing this project, you will:
- Apply Unreal Engine workflows for character, environment, and Blueprints.
- Design and present a playable environment with clear mood and storytelling.
- Demonstrate interactivity with basic scripting logic.
- Prepare a packaged project for a portfolio showcase.

Rubric (100 pts)
| Criteria | Excellent | Adequate | Weak | Value |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Environment | Clear scale, polished lighting, cohesive composition | Basic scene built, some issues | Incomplete or sloppy | 25 |
| Character Integration | Fully imported, materials/textures correct | Imported, minor issues | Missing or broken | 15 |
| Blueprints | Movement, trigger, and win condition work smoothly | Basic movement or one interactive element | No working interactivity | 25 |
| Renders & Playthrough | Polished visuals, clean video capture | Present but rough | Poor readability | 15 |
| Process & PDF | Detailed workflow, Blueprint screenshots, reflection | Partial documentation | Minimal/no documentation | 10 |
| Professional Practices | Correct naming, folder structure, references credited | Minor errors | Disorganized | 10 |
Late work: −10% per week. Missing references: −5 pts. Poor naming: −2 pts.
