Assignment 1.2

Core Loop & Gameplay Outline

πŸŽ₯ Video Outline

  • What is a Core Gameplay Loop?

    • The repeated cycle of actions the player performs.
    • Usually: Action β†’ Feedback β†’ Reward β†’ Repeat.
    • Example: In a platformer β†’ Jump β†’ Land β†’ Collect Coin β†’ Keep Moving.
  • Types of Loops:

    • Primary Loop β€” the short repeatable actions (movement, combat, gathering).
    • Secondary Loop β€” mid-length goals (quests, puzzles, missions).
    • Meta Loop β€” long-term progression (leveling up, story arcs).
  • Why Core Loops Matter:

    • Defines the β€œfun” of the game.
    • Keeps players engaged.
    • Shapes the scope of the vertical slice.
  • Scope Reminder:

    • For this project, focus on the Primary Loop.
    • The Alpha must have one clear loop that can be repeated.
  • Gameplay Outline Tips:

    • Write steps like instructions a player could follow.
    • Include what happens, what feedback is given, and what rewards exist.
    • Keep it short, clear, and focused.
