Finalized Game Design Document (GDD)

  • Purpose of the Finalized GDD

    • The GDD is your blueprint going into pre-production.
    • Teams will use these documents in Unit 2 to decide which projects to pursue.
  • What Should Be Included:

    • Title and high-level overview
    • Narrative concept (Unit 1.1)
    • Core gameplay loop (Unit 1.2)
    • Features list (scope-appropriate)
    • Art and style guide with references
    • Technical notes (engine, platform, team tools)
    • Production plan (milestones, roles)
  • Tips for Finalizing:

    • Revise based on peer and instructor feedback (from A1.4).
    • Ensure clarity โ€” another team should be able to pick this up and build the slice.
    • Keep formatting consistent and professional.
  • Next Steps Reminder:

    • This document will be pitched in Unit 2.
    • Strong clarity and scope now will make your pitch much easier.

Workshop 1

  • Review peer and instructor feedback from A1.4.
  • Revise sections that lacked clarity or scope.
  • Add visuals to the art/style guide (moodboards, palettes).
  • Ensure technical and production sections are complete.

Workshop 2

  • Proofread and format the full GDD.
  • Export to PDF for submission.
  • Upload to Canvas and your portfolio.
  • Prepare 1โ€“2 slides or summary points to support your pitch in Unit 2.

If you finish early:

  • Create a short โ€œpitch blurbโ€ version of your GDD (2โ€“3 sentences).
  • Add optional diagrams (level flow, UI mockups, mechanic flowcharts).
